As
I am, Rethinking Schools is “firmly committed to equity and to the vision that
public education is central to the creation of a humane, caring, multiracial
democracy.” It’s critical for teachers, parents, and students to hear the voice
of change that addresses public school issues that impact, as well as motivate
us to action.
Sleeter mentions a teacher in one of her courses who was struggling with what democracy and social action might mean in an elementary school. The teacher searched for articles in Rethinking Schools and found alternative perspectives “grounded in the work and voices of other elementary teachers.”
As a teacher candidate, I’m grateful to have a resource that models excellent, politically relevant multicultural teaching.
